15 F Fly to Kolkata. Park Hotel. Walking tour of nearby Chowringhee Road. Kolkata
16 S Day tour of Kolkata: Indian Museum, Mother Teresa's Mission, Ganges riverfront, Victoria Memorial, Pavilions of the States. Kolkata
17 S Fly to Agartala in Tripura. Hotel Welcome Palace. Visit nearby state museum, local market with Tripuri weavings.

18 M Day trip south to Udaipur, visit one of the Shakti cult temples. See the beautiful fairy tale Neermahal water palace on the lake. The drive itself is very interesting: villages, landforms, vegetation, tribal dress, agriculture. Agartala
19 T Visit the gleaming white Ujjayanta Palace, completed in 1901. It is the center of an 800 acre complex with many sculptures depicting episodes of Krishna's life. Then Tribal Museum, Kali Temple. Agartala
20 W Fly Agartala-Guwahati. Check in at Dynasty Hotel, has the best food in town.
Some free time: email, dessert shop around the corner, silk shops. The nite market is in the street in front of our hotel. Tea auction?

21 Th In and around Guwahati: The Kali temple of Kamakhya, State Museum, Sukreswar Ghat, bookstore, Fancy Bazaar. Guwahati
22 F Catch first class train (Janashatabdi Express) to Dimapur, on edge of Nagaland. (I have ridden this train and it is very good). Then on by van to Kohima.
Late afternoon: Markets, local sites.

23 S In and around Kohima, very interesting market area. Large WW II cemetery The Battle of Kohima was one of the most important of the 20th century.

24 S AM: By van to Touphema. Preparations for Angami Festival, ritual slaughter of mithun and pigs, if you need to see. To Old Touphema. Stay in chalets, each built by a village khel (clan) from Touphema. Touphema
25 M Beginning of Sekrenyi Festival of the Angami Naga. Cleansing ceremony, rituals, tribal dances, Gate Pulling ceremony. Feast. Touphema
26 T Continuation of Sekrenyi Festival, gatherings of Angami Nagas, craft markets, wrestling, trbal dances.
Afternoon: To Tseminyu village of the Ungma tribe.

Afternoon: To Kohima, downtown area, wet market, bookstore, Naga emporium.

28 Th To Khonoma, a spectacular stone town to the southwest. Home to Ao Naga. Very important historically. See mithun in sanctuary. Guided around the area. Visit Hornbill Festival site. Late afternoon to Kohima. Downtown area. Kohima
29 F By vans down from Kohima to Dimapur and northward to Jorhat. Interesting drive, tea plantations, villages, tribal villages. Jorhat
Mar. 1 S Day trip to Majuli Island. Take the ferry across the Brahmaputra River to the island from Neemati ghat near Jarhat, 2 hours. On arrival drive a short distance through verdant country side to Auniati 'satra' or Mindu Vaishnavite monastery. From here drive to a Mising village for a traditional lunch at a traditional Mising stilt house. Proceed to Kamalabari satra for a monastic dance performance before returning to the jetty for the boat ride back to Jorhat. Jorhat
2 S Short van trip from Jorhat to Kaziranga National Park. Can explore Jorhat, we will stop at interesting points during the trip. Wild GrassResort
3 M Morning: Elephant ride looking at wildlife; we will see hog deer, swamp deer, elephants, wild pigs, numerous rhino, probably wild buffalo, and perhaps tigers. The park is a veritable paradise for bird watchers, with a variety of large resident and migratory birds. There are several lakes and we are near the Brahmaputra River so there are numerous storks, kingfishers, darters, etc. At mid-day to a local subsistence village with beautiful cotton weaving. Afternoon jeep safari to see rhinos, elephants, birds, deer, sametimes hornbills.
Evening: Dinner around campfire, tribal dance performance.

4 T Vans from Kaziranga to Guwahati. Those interested can go on morning elephent ride in Kaziranga (optional $). Stop at points of interest on day trip.

This trip is built around the Sekrenyi Festival of the Angami Naga in Tuophema. Among the other features are our stay at Kaziranga National Park, the days in Kolkata, and exploring Tripura.

The cost of $3,563 includes all hotels in Thailand and India, breakfasts in Thailand and full board in India, all flights from Bangkok and back, all ground transport in India, all guides. Single supplement is $835. It does not include camera fees, visas, laundry, tips, private taxi, airport tax, and any fees for permits.

A $500 deposit reserves a place; final payment by November 15.
