Jan. 22 T Gather at the Ashok country Resort. Convenient to airport. Delhi
23 W AM: Sleep in. Then to Gandi Memorial, Jama Masjid, National Museum. Delhi
24 Th After breakfast by our bus to Mandawa. Stay in Hotel Desert Resort, a beautiful place on the desert's edge. Afternoon tour of the town, visit the painted havelis. Mandawa
25 F AM: by coach to Bikaner Afternoon visit town and the massive Junagarh Fort, built in the Mughal period. Magnificent; the carvings are among the most exquisite in India. Stay at Hotel Laxmi Palace, a spectacular palace, parts of which are now a hotel. This is where Elizabeth Hurley was married a few months ago. (Google it) Bikaner
26 S AM: to Jaisalmer, arrive early afternoon. Then visit havelis, the Bhramin Cenotaphs. Jaisalmer
27 S Morning visit to the Golden Fort, downtown area, the Citadel. The exquisite architecture, using beautiful golden sandstone, is the best in India. Late afternoon out of town, sunset camel ride in the desert. Jaisalmer
28 M AM: coach ride to Jodhpur, the "Blue city." Afternoon to downtown bazaars. Dinner at hotel. Jodhpur
29 T To Meharangarh Fort, the epitome of Rajput power and extravagance, towering above the city. Then Jaswant Thada. The sandstone used in the massive forts and other buildings is of exceptional quality, even the very thinly bedded examples. Jodhpur
30 W By coach to spectacular Jain temples at Ranakpur, the largest and most ornate of the Jain temples. Lunch at the outdoor garden at Maharani Bagh,among the trees, flowers, and birds. On to Udaipur, interesting agriculture. Udaipur
31 Th Morning: Visit the City Palace and Royal Gardens. In the afternoon boat on Lake Pichola, with ornate Rajput palaces "floating on the lake." Some time free in late afternoon. Udaipur
Feb. 1 F By our coach to Pushkar. Lunch at our resort hotel. Afternoon: visit the Bhramha Temple and the Pushkar ghats, then stroll downtown. Pushkar
2 S To Jaipur, the "Pink City." In the afternoon we visit the city palace and the Jantar Mantar; the observatory was built by Jai Singh between 1728 and 1734. The sundial, almost 300 years old, can calculate the time to within two seconds. Jaipur
3 S In the morning we visit the Amber Fort, so called for the color of the beautiful sandstone. Afternoon at the colorful bazaars in town. Also good snack and dessert shops. Jaipur
4 M Toward Agra, stopping at Fatehpur Sikri, the "perfect city", now mostly abandored. Built by Akbar the Great. In the afternoon visit the Taj Mahal. Agra
5 T Visit the Red Fort in the morning. Afternoon free. I can take groups to shops in town or elsewhere. Or visit the Taj Mahal again. Agra
6 W By train to Jhansi, visit historic buildings and the fort. Lunch at Orcha, with the spectacular fort and temples. And laundry, market. Bus on to Khajuraho. Khajuraho
7 Th Morning: visit the eastern and western groups of temples, with their exceptional erotic sculptures.
Afternoon: free for individual activity, exploring, shopping, or returning to the temples Khajuraho is an interesting, walkable small town.

8 F Slow morning, late breakfast, then to the airport and fly to Varanasi.
Late afternoon: explore Varanasi. It is a large city while some of the previous stops are quite small.

9 S Early morning: boat ride on the Ganges past the cremation ghats. Intensely interesting walk through the narrow streets and alleys.
Afternoon: to Sarnath; it was here that Buddha gave his first sermon. There will be some time in the afternoon free for individual activity; once some of us hired a small boat to explore along the Ganges.

10 S To the airport and fly to Delhi.
After lunch: shopping or to museums (option).

11 M Tour ends after breakfast. Depart

A trip to many of the spectacular sights of India: Rajasthan, Varanasi, Golden Fort, Taj Mahal.

The cost of $2,546 includes all hotels, meals beginning the evening of January 22 and ending with breakfast February 11. All flights and ground transport in India. All guides. Single supplement is $730. It does not include camera fees, visas, laundry, tips, private taxi, airport tax, and any fees for permits. A $500 deposit reserves a place; final payment by October 10.

Registration forms are on the website or available by mail. Those signing up will be sent information on visas, money, health, clothing, etc.

I have been to all these places at least twice so can help you in individual travel in free time, shopping, etc.
